Shot of various individuals sat in six separate motorcars outside front entrance to the Hop Pole Hotel, Ollerton.

The owners of the cars pictured left to right (and the men behind the drivers wheel of each car with the exception of the third one) are believed to be:
1. Henry Temple Wightman (1866 - 1920), Arthur Wightmans youngest brother, a surgeon, who lived (at the time) at 92 Brocco Bank, Sheffield. According to information on reverse of photograph, others pictured in this car are Constance, presumably Henrys wife Constance Mary Wightman (nee Lockwood) (1877 - 1944), and Dolly ];
2. Denis Conway Wightman (1876 - 1933), Arthur Wightmans third son. According to information on reverse of photograph, others pictured in this car are Woolhouse and Jessie ;
3. C. Clifford probably refers to the owner of the car, not evidently pictured in the scene, Colonel Sir Charles Clifford (1860 - 1936), one of the proprietors of the Sheffield Daily Telegraph and Chairman of Directors of W. C. Leng and Co. who lived at the time at Endcliffe Chase, Sheffield (later at Whirlow). According to information on reverse of photograph, those pictured in this car are Driver [referring to an un-named chauffeur], Eric Clifford [evidently Eric Charles Clifford (1889 - 1961), one of Charles Cliffords sons who went onto become a director of Sheffield Telegraph newspapers] and Mrs Clifford [evidently Mrs Alice Emma Clifford nee Davy (1862 - 1941), Charles Cliffords wife and Erics mother];
4. Shelley Barker probably Henry Shelley Barker (1868 - 1935), solicitor, of Redholme, Sandygate, Sheffield, latterly of Tylecote, 7 Gladstone Road, Ranmoor. According to information on reverse of photograph, others pictured in this car are Col. Elles, Bl. Lockwood [evidently Blanche Lockwood (1875 - 1964), sister of Constance Mary Wightman] and Mrs Barker.
5. Alfred Edward Thompson (1865 - 1955), managing director of Joseph & Henry Wilson Ltd, snuff manufacturers, Sheffield, who lived at Westbrook, Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield. He was one of the first people to register a motorcar plate in Sheffield, his plate W4 registered on 21 Dec 1903. According to information on reverse of photograph, others pictured in this car are Mrs T [evidently Florence Ethel Broughton Thompson (nee Noon) (1863 - 1939), Alfreds wife] and Ada [possibly Ada Wightman (1860 - 1942), one of Arthur Wightmans sisters];
6. Benjamin Arthur Wightman (1873 - 1937), Arthur Wightmans eldest son. According to information on reverse of photograph, others pictured in this car are Bobbie T. and Woolhouse.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Captured in this vintage print is a delightful scene from the Wightman family's motorcar outing to the Hop Pole Hotel in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. The image showcases six separate motorcars lined up outside the hotel's front entrance, each belonging to a different member of the family. Starting from left to right, we have Henry Temple Wightman, a skilled surgeon residing in Sheffield at that time. Accompanying him are his wife Constance and Dolly, whose identity remains unknown. Next is Denis Conway Wightman, Arthur Wightman's third son. Riding with him are Woolhouse and Jessie. The third car belongs to C. Clifford, likely Colonel Sir Charles Clifford himself who was associated with prominent newspapers and resided in Sheffield. Although not visible in the photograph, his chauffeur Driver can be seen alongside Eric Clifford (one of Charles' sons) and Mrs. Alice Emma Clifford (Charles' wife). Shelley Barker occupies the fourth car; he was a solicitor based in Sheffield. Joining him are Col. Elles and Blanche Lockwood (Constance Mary Wightman's sister). Alfred Edward Thompson takes charge of the fifth vehicle as managing director of Joseph & Henry Wilson Ltd. , snuff manufacturers. Lastly, Benjamin Arthur Wightman drives his own car accompanied by Bobbie T. and Woolhouse once again. This snapshot offers us an intriguing glimpse into an era when motorcars were still relatively new but already providing families like the Wightmans with opportunities for joyous outings.
