North aisle of Westminster Abbey AL2028_014_01
The north aisle of Westminster Abbey, London. Victor Albert Proutas album of photographs. The interior of the Abbey of Westminster was published in 1860. The 23 prints are some of the earliest interior views of the building, and this view of the north aisle records monuments outside the Chapel of St John the Baptist that have since been repaired or restored. Commenting on a dozen of Proutas views that had been published by Mr J Elliot, The Athenaeum in March 1860 described them as having various merit, but as a whole, they are very fine and powerful.
