EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic moment captured at Buckingham Palace on 4 February 1969, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II warmly welcomes Colonel Frank Borman and his family. Colonel Borman, an American astronaut, pilot, aeronautical engineer, and test pilot, had recently achieved international acclaim as the Commander of Apollo 8, the groundbreaking mission that marked the first time humans flew around the Moon. Alongside his crewmates Jim Lovell and Bill Anders, Borman became one of only 24 individuals to make this extraordinary journey. The Queen's gracious reception of the Borman family highlights the global significance of this achievement and the enduring bond between the United States and the United Kingdom in the realm of space exploration.
