South Yorkshire County Council logo, 1974 Featured Miscellaneous Print

South Yorkshire County Council logo, 1974

The design was chosen from a competition organised by the County Council and open to all local people. Entries were in three age groups - under 11, 11-16 and over 16s. The competition attracted over 400 entries from all over the county. The winners in their respective sections were Miss A. Hill, Mr B. Pursehouse and Mr P. Mansell. Paul Mansell, an art student at Sheffield City Polytechnic was chosen as the overall winner. His simple but distinctive design combined the White Rose of York and the County initials. The green colour of the letters reflected the rural character of much of South Yorkshire.Image from 'South Yorkshire County Council 1973-1986' (Local Studies ref. PAMP 353 SQ)
