Longley Depot Triumphs at Sheffield Casualty Services First-Aid Competition, 1950s

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from the Sheffield City Archives, we are transported back to the 1950s when Longley Depot emerged as victorious in the highly anticipated inter-depot first-aid competition. The atmosphere is electric as team members proudly pose for the camera, their faces beaming with joy and accomplishment. The results of this intense contest were nothing short of impressive. Longley Depot secured a remarkable score of 250.5 points, surpassing their rivals Lydgate Lane Depot who scored 244 points and Staniforth Road Depot with a commendable score of 231.5 points. This victory solidified Longley's reputation as an exceptional force in providing emergency medical care within the community. The competition itself was no easy feat. Teams comprised dedicated first-aid party and ambulance personnel who faced a simulated disaster scenario involving five casualties resulting from a tram route bomb explosion. Their quick thinking, expertise, and teamwork were put to the ultimate test as they raced against time to save lives.
