This print from the Sheffield City Archives takes us back to 1914, capturing a poignant moment at Whiteley Wood Open Air School. The image showcases a group of children resting, their youthful faces reflecting both innocence and resilience. Established in 1909 by Sheffield City Council, this unique institution provided specialized education for children aged 10 and above who suffered from anaemia, tuberculosis, and general debility. Originally housed in the former Whiteley Wood School building, the school later relocated to Cottage Lane.
