EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the Sheffield City Battalion during their time in Egypt in 1916. Amongst the brave soldiers, Richard Arthur Sparling can be seen standing on the extreme right, his helmet marked with a cross. Serving as a sergeant and Orderly Room clerk in the 12th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment (Sheffield City Battalion), Sparling played an integral role in World War One.
